<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an effective abbreviated dialing function with a communication apparatus having a function for performing a telephone call. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A telephone directory means has a function for storing data on a plurality of telephone numbers to display the data in a predetermined format, and in the case where the display is activated in response to user operation, as an initial state, the telephone directory means is brought into an abbreviated display state for displaying data on telephone numbers registered as abbreviated numbers. In response to user operation, an abbreviated number registering means registers as an abbreviated number a telephone number designated based on the data displayed by the telephone directory means in any display state other than the abbreviated display state. In response to user operation, an abbreviated call means performs a call for the telephone number designated based on data displayed in the abbreviated display state by the telephone directory means.
