A method for measuring a milk flow with the aid of at least one light sensor, wherein the method comprises the following. steps : a. directing the milk flow through a channel (6) with predetermined dimensions, such that a filling height of the channel with milk of the milk flow depends on the magnitude of the flow rate of the milk flow; b. measuring with the aid of at least one light sensor (32) for multiple different areas lying within the channel, per area, whether milk or no milk of the milk flow is present in the respective area, whereby these areas are illuminated; c processing in combination the information on the milk of the milk flow being present or not per area for determining the amount of milk, the magnitude of the velocity of the milk flow in the channel and/or the flow rate of the milk flow.
