<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device for reducing a driver's discomfort by respecting the driver's operation as much as possible to the extent that an obstacle is surely avoided by intervention control. <P>SOLUTION: An ECU 2 of the driving support device 1 includes an obstacle detecting unit 22, a control course calculating unit 23, a determining unit 24, and an intervention control execution unit 25. The obstacle detecting unit 22 detects an obstacle area around one's own vehicle. The control course calculating unit 23 calculates intervention control courses that the one's own vehicle can take when intervention control is executed after the driver's operation has been permitted for a predetermined period of time. The determining unit 24 determines whether or not the number of intervention control courses not overlapping the obstacle area is less than a predetermined number, based on the obstacle area sent from the obstacle detecting unit 22 and the intervention control course sent from the control course calculating unit 23.
