PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel for a heat-resistant member, which shows superior high-temperature oxidation resistance and a long-term stability of high-temperature strength when having been repeatedly used in a high-temperature environment for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel includes, by mass%, 0.08% or less C, 1.0-3% Si, 2.5% or less Mn, 0.04% or less P, 0.01% or less S, 8.0-15% Ni, more than 22-26% Cr, more than 0.15-0.3% N, 0.3% or less Nb, 0-0.1% in the total content of REM, Y and Ca, and the balance Fe with unavoidable impurities. The composition is adjusted so that the value A expressed by expression (1) of value A=Cr%+3(Si%)+100(REM%+Ca%) is 28 or more, and the value B expressed by expression (2) of value B=100(N%)+5(Nb%) is 20 or more.
