<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect in a short time that lamp is not installed in a projector. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes an installation section 21 for installing a lamp unit 17, a memory reading section for performing data reading operation from a lamp memory 171 contained in the lamp unit 17 through the installation section 21, a lamp installation-judgment section for judging whether it is normal or an error based on whether the memory reading section has read the data corresponding to a predetermined condition from the lamp memory 171, and a lamp lighting section for controlling lighting of a lamp 172 contained in the lamp unit 17 when the judgment by the lamp installation-determination section is normal.
