摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool the hard coating layer of which exerts excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance in heavy cutting work. SOLUTION: The surface coated cutting tool has the hard coating layer on a surface of a tool base consisting of cemented carbide, cermet, and a boron nitride based ultra-high-pressure sintered material in cubic crystal form. When a lower layer is represented by a composition formula: (Cr<SB>1-X</SB>Al<SB>X</SB>)N, the lower layer is a Cr-Al complex nitride layer having X satisfying 0.4-0.7 (X is an atomic ratio). When an upper layer is represented by a composition formula: (Cr<SB>1-Y-Z</SB>Si<SB>Y</SB>W<SB>Z</SB>)N, the upper layer is a Cr-Si-W complex nitride layer having Y satisfying 0.05-0.3 and Z satisfying 0.2-0.5 (Y, Z is an atomic ratio).
