PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mascara applicator which may be varied between a straight configuration and a curved configuration. SOLUTION: The mascara applicator includes a hollow grip portion (2) connected to which is one end of a shaft (4), and an elongate flexible connector (20). The other end of the shaft carries a hollow and flexible mascara brush (6). The connector extends within the shaft and the mascara brush. A first end of the connector is fixed with respect to the distal end of the mascara brush and a second end of the connector is fixed with respect to actuating means (38, 46) within the grip portion. The actuating means are selectively operable to move the second end in the direction away from the mascara brush, thereby applying a force to the distal end of the mascara brush. The first end of the connector is fixed with respect to the distal end of the brush eccentrically with respect to the center of the brush so that the mascara brush can adopt a curved configuration by applying force to the distal end of the brush.
