PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic oscillator for efficiently causing an EIT phenomenon for a group of atoms having optical resonant wavelength distribution caused by Doppler spread. SOLUTION: The quantum interference device includes: an LD 2 for emitting resonant light; a center wavelength generating means 1 for generating a center wavelength of the LD 2; an oscillator 9 for oscillating a 1/2 frequency of the frequency corresponding to an energy difference (ΔE12) between two different base states; an oscillator 10 for oscillating a frequency that is sufficiently small with respect to Doppler spread; EOMs (electro-optical modulators) 3, 4 for applying frequency modulation to the resonant light 11 emitted from the LD 2 by an electric signal; a gas cell 5. in which gaseous alkali metal (cesium) atoms are sealed, for changing a light absorption amount in accordance with the wavelength of light 12 modulated by the EOM 4; a photodetector (photodetection means) 6 for detecting light 13 transmitted from the gas cell 5; and a frequency control means 7 for controlling an output voltage by detecting the EIT state of the gas cell 5 based on output of the photodetector 6.
