<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for enhancing the light extraction efficiency without narrowing the interconnection width of an electrode on the light extraction side. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting element 1 includes: an active layer 10; a pair of clad layers 9 and 11 that hold the active layer 10 in between; an n-type contact layer 12 formed in a form of dots on the n-type clad layer 11 on the light extraction side out of the pair of clad layers 9 and 11; and an n-type electrode 14 electrically connected to the n-type contact layer 12. The n-type electrode 14 has an electrode interconnection part 17 and an electrode relay part 18 which constitute a bridge structure. The electrode interconnection part 17 is separated from the n-type contact layer 12 in a thickness direction Z of the light emitting element and is so formed as to overlap the n-type contact layer 12 in a planar view.
