PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently update a map data in a wide area. SOLUTION: If an inter-vehicle communication is enabled between the other vehicle, a main area held by one vehicle and a main area held by the other vehicle are compared. If it determines that an area which is not included in the main area of one vehicle exists in the main area of the other vehicle, the area is set in addition to the main area of one vehicle. The map data corresponding to the area among the map data stored in a storage medium 17 is updated with the map data of the area within the main area obtained from the other vehicle. The map data stored in the storage medium 17 is updated by obtaining the current map data from a center 2 through a communication network with regard to the map data of the main area derived from one vehicle.
