<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser clad valve seat forming method enhancing laser absorbability, increasing remelt capacity, and achieving sufficient gas ventilation. <P>SOLUTION: In the laser clad valve seat forming method, a molten layer is formed by melting a base material by irradiating a valve seat forming portion 2 of a casted cylinder head 1 with a laser beam hv, and after that, while supplying metal powder 4 onto the molten layer, the cylinder head 1 and the laser beam hv are rotated relatively to form a clad layer by irradiating the laser beam hv and building-up. Before a process for forming the clad layer by build-up, a laser absorbing portion 18 for absorbing the laser beam hv and suppressing a reflection ratio is processed in the valve seat forming portion 2, and then, the remelting process for heating and melting by irradiating the laser beam hv to the laser absorbing portion 18 is performed.
