<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact drying volume reduction device of a treated object capable of efficiently drying the muddy treated object and reducing the volume of the treated object. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the drying volume reduction device of the treated object, a drive shaft 20 rotated in the circumferential direction is installed horizontally within a housing 10 including a charge port 16 of the treated object and a discharge port 17 of a dry cake, and heating and stirring means 30 are fixed to the drive shaft 20. The heating and stirring means 30 includes: a pair of disk plates 31, 31 each having a V-shaped or L-shaped notch 31a and a notch hole 31b through which the drive shaft 20 is penetrated; and a band-shaped side plate 32 provided between peripheral edges of the pair of disk plates 31, 31 having the notches 31a, 31a opposing to each other. Between the pair of disk plates 31, 31, the band-shaped side plate 32 and the drive shaft 20, a closed space 34 to which steam S is injected and drain is discharged is provided.
