PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter that reduces interference to an adjacent band, and a power amplification method. SOLUTION: The transmitter includes: a nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics control part that determines nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics for signal conversion according to a usage state of a frequency band; an amplitude control part that converts signal amplitude on the basis of the determined nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics; and a transmission power amplification part that amplifies power of the signal whose amplitude is converted. Alternatively, the transmitter includes: a nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics control part that determines nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics for signal conversion according to a usage state of a frequency band; a plurality of transmission power amplification parts respectively having nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics different from each other; and a selecting part that selects one of the plurality of transmission power amplification parts on the basis of the determined nonlinear input-output conversion characteristics.
