<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive sheet feeder detecting stacking of a document with a higher degree of accuracy, and keeping detection accuracy even when light path of a light sensor used for detection of the presence/absence of the document stacked on a document table varies according to the height of a sheet stacking table. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The light of an abnormal shape detecting sensor for detecting the abnormal shape condition of the document is introduced to a document stacking detecting sensor light receiving section arranged below the document table by a light guide arranged in the document table for stacking the document. Moreover, according to ascent and descent of the document table, the amount of emission of light of the abnormal shape detecting sensor is varied, thereby detecting the document.
