PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device that ensures sufficient recording quality for a plurality of types of recording media, which differ in the rate at which they absorb a recording material and swell. SOLUTION: The recording device includes: a recording head for performing a printing process by emitting ink to recording paper; a platen 14 in which a plurality of ascending/descending units 26 for supporting recording paper are provided so as to be adjustably projected toward the recording head; and drive shafts 29 and 30 for adjusting the projections of the ascending/descending units 26 toward the recording head according to the rate at which recording paper absorbs ink and swells.
