PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact detection device for a machine tool and a method for manufacturing a tip contact of a stylus for accurately measuring the dimension of a workpiece based on the nominal radius of the tip contact and actual traveling distance of the stylus. SOLUTION: When the actual radius of the tip contact 21 of the stylus 2 is Ra, Ra=Rn+d is satisfied by adding the additional traveling distance d of the stylus 2 from the position in which the tip contact 21 abuts on the workpiece 110 to the position in which one of movable contacts 11, 12, 13 separates from the corresponding pairs of steel balls 31 and 32, 33 and 34, 35 and 36 to the nominal radius Rn of the tip contact 21 as motion delay. Thereby, the stylus 2 is moved to the workpiece 110 side by the additional traveling distance d after the abutment of the tip contact 21 to the workpiece 110, the total of the traveling distance of the stylus 2 and the nominal radius of the tip contact 21 becomes equal to the actual traveling distance, eliminating an error.
