A banknote binding device (3) has a binding section (22) for forming a banknote bundle by binding together, by using a binding band, one hundred banknotes to be bound, and also has a stamping section (71) for stamping a stamp mark on the binding band of the banknote bundle, which has been formed by the binding section (22), such that the stamp mark is located on the binding band. The banknote binding device (3) also has a drive controlling section (160) for controlling drive of a stamp driving mechanism (72) which drives the stamping section (71) so that a stamp mark is stamped and positioned on that portion of the binding band of the banknote bundle which is located on a side of the banknote bundle. As a result, even if banknote bundles are stacked on each other with the banknote surfaces facing the direction of the stacking, a user can visually discern the stamp marks from the side faces of the banknote bundles.
