An X-ray or gamma ray detector array is disclosed, with at least one row of detector elements including at least one layer made of an X-ray or gamma radiation absorbing conversion material. In at least one embodiment, the conversion material is at least in part composed of a chemical element with an atomic number ≧72, preferably >82. Such an X-ray or gamma ray detector array allows an increased spatial and spectral resolution and better dose usage.
