PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a matrix converter circuit at a low cost, stably detecting a load current when a single-phase AC power is converted to a three-phase AC power. SOLUTION: The matrix converter circuit converts AC power from a single-phase AC power supply 1 to three-phase AC power. The matrix converter circuit is equipped with: a phase-driving circuit provided at each of three phases and comprising two bi-directional switches 2, 3 connected in series across the terminals of the AC power supply 1, a shunt resistor 9a provided between one of the two bi-directional switches 2, 3 and one terminal of the AC power supply 1, and a current-detecting means 10 for detecting the current running through a load 8 by detecting the terminal voltage in the shunt resistor 9a.
