PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent lowering of wavelength conversion efficiency due to deterioration of a periodic polarization reversal structure in a miniaturized harmonic wave generator in which a wavelength conversion layer including a channel type optical waveguide provided with a periodic polarization reversal structure is held between a support substrate and an upper substrate. SOLUTION: The harmonic wave generator 1 includes: the support substrate 2; the wavelength conversion layer 3 formed of ferroelectric single crystal and provided with the channel type optical waveguide 10 including the periodic polarization reversal structure 11; a lower bonding layer 8 adhesively bonding the wavelength conversion layer 3 and the support substrate 2; the upper substrate 5 provided on the upside of the wavelength conversion layer 3; and an upper adhesive layer 7 adhesively bonding the wavelength conversion layer 3 and the upper substrate 5. The width w of the wavelength conversion layer 3 when viewed in the direction vertical to the propagation direction A of light in the optical waveguide is 1.5 mm or less. At least one of the support substrate 2 and the upper substrate 5 is formed of material quality having a lower volume resistivity than the volume resistivity of the ferroelectric single crystal.
