PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device and a driving support method for a vehicle, relieving a sense of incongruity given to a driver by suppressing the abrupt change of a traveling operation support amount. SOLUTION: A base for setting the initial conditions relating to the re-calculation of a target traveling path by a target traveling path calculation part 230 is selectively set by an initial condition setting part 250. The setting of initial conditions is performed by selectively depending on two state amounts, a detected present state value and a predicted state value, according to the circumstances. When any of the calculated values of the target traveling path by the re-calculation may vary largely due to the detection error of the present state, the variation of the calculated values is suppressed by applying, as the initial conditions for calculation, the predicted state values which are not directly affected by the causes of error.
