PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required up to imaging. SOLUTION: A focus detecting device includes: a focus detecting section detecting the focusing state of an optical system; a recognition section repeatedly recognizing the image of a specific object out of images by the optical system; and a control section making the control of the focus detecting section different according to whether or not the recognition of the image of the specific object is started by the recognition section, to detect the focusing state.
