PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating compressor inhibiting a connecting rod from damaging a crank case, an inside thereof, or the like even if abnormality occurs in a locus of the connecting rod when the connecting rod does not fracture at a stress concentration part. SOLUTION: This compressor includes the connecting rod 40 connected to a piston at one end side and connected to a crank shaft 22 at another end to reciprocate the piston in a cylinder 30, and is provided with a projection part 55 at a section which is inside of the crank case 11 or a cylinder 30 and which the connecting rod 40 abuts on when abnormality occurs in the locus of the connecting rod 40.
