<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display device, wherein the liquid crystal display device in a lateral electric field mode is manufactured by adopting a dropping system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A color filter substrate 10 includes: a glass substrate 11; a black matrix 15 provided on one surface of the glass substrate 11; and a color filter 12 provided in an area divided by the black matrix 15, wherein a transparent electrode 14 is provided between the glass substrate 11 and the black matrix 15, a transparent electrode 13 is provided on the opposite surface of one surface on the glass substrate 11, and the transparent electrode 13 has an opening formed in an area superposed on the transparent electrode 14.
