PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electronic ink processing technology that can be used by various software applications for, for example, analyzing, classifying and/or recognizing an electronic ink layout. SOLUTION: An application programming interface instantiates an ink analyzer object, and the ink analyzer object receives document data about a document including electronic ink content from a software application which hosts the document and executes the document with a first processing thread. Then, the ink application object uses the first processing thread to prepare a copy of the document data, provides the copy of the document data to an electronic ink analysis process, and returns control of the first processing thread to the analysis process.
