A description is given of a method for preparing a quarry (2) containing raw materials which retain water by capillary forces. The method is characterized in that a least one well (3) is provided in or around the quarry (2), with said well (3), relative to an intended excavation level (6), being drilled to a depth that ensures that at least some of the water retained in the raw materials by the capillary forces flows into the well (3) for being drained off. In this way the raw materials are drained while situated in the quarry. By draining the raw materials before they are excavated a number of advantages are obtained. Both the equipment for excavating and for transporting the raw materials will be able to handle more raw materials as a lot less water has to be dealt with. When the raw materials are raw materials for cement production the far most important advantage is that the energy needed for evaporation of water in the raw materials, during the production of cement clinker, is significantly reduced.
|
