PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron multiplier capable of easily attaining characteristics corresponding to various applications. SOLUTION: A gap 12 is formed between channel sections 22, 32 by joining a peripheral edge 23 of a MCP 2 and a peripheral edge 33 of a MCP 3 via a spacer layer 7. Thus, when the electron multiplier is used for an application especially requiring a high gain, the gain can be increased by enlarging the gap 12 based on adjustment of thickness of the spacer layer 7. Further, when the electron multiplier is used for applications requiring enlargement of a gain and time characteristics, a size of the gap 12 can be adjusted so as to attain a desired characteristic by adjusting the thickness of the spacer layer 7. Consequently, characteristics corresponding to various applications can be easily attained only by adjusting the thickness of the spacer layer 7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
