The present invention relates to a method for preparing dichloropropanols, in particular, 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol or 2,3-dichloro-1-propanol, which can be used as raw materials for the production of 2-(chloromethyl)oxirane, which in turn is used for producing epoxy resin. The method involves promoting the reaction of glycerin or derivatives or precursors thereof with hydrochloric acid and water in at least one continuous reaction zone comprising a fixed catalytic bed composed of a mixture of glycerin or derivatives or precursors thereof at high concentrations of one or more organic acids, at reaction temperatures from about 110°C to 180°C, with continuous removal of products and non-converted reagents.
