PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document feeding device attaining enhancement of productivity by accurately grasping a subsequent document leading end position after conveying a former document and optimizing a feed timing of the subsequent document. SOLUTION: The document feeding device has a first document detection means arranged on an upstream side more than a conveying means for conveying the document to a document reading part and on a downstream side more than a document separation nipping part and capable of detecting existence of the document, and further has a second document detection means arranged on an upstream side more than the first document detection means and on a downstream side more than the document separation nipping part. A drive source for driving a separation means and a drive source for driving the conveying means are at least made independent from each other, and when it is transferred from the state in which any one of the first document detection means and the second document detection means detects existence of the document to the non-detection state and a document setting recognition means determines that the subsequent document is present, control for starting feeding action of the subsequent document is performed.
