PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber superior in ride comfort, stably pressurizing cushion oil, simplifying structure, and reducing weight. SOLUTION: This hydraulic shock absorber has a pressure side damping force generator 50 in a piston side oil chamber 43A of a damper cylinder 21, and the pressure side damping force generator 50 has a sub-piston 54 arranged in the piston side oil chamber 43A and having the damping force generating function. A sub-piston side oil chamber 43C of the sub-piston 54 is provided with a first separator 53 having a communicating hole 53A capable of connecting the sub-piston side oil chamber 43C and a bladder side oil chamber 43D. The bladder side oil chamber 43D is provided with a blow hole 67 for installing a bladder 57 having a gas chamber 57A inside, blocked up by the bladder 57 at ordinary time and opening when hydraulic pressure reaches preset pressure when the bladder 57 contracts by the hydraulic pressure.
