The method involves legitimating access to protected areas (2, 4) by transmission of an image file electronically stored in a transmission device e.g. mobile telephone (1), computer and universal serial busstick, to receiving devices (3, 5). A user name is transmitted to the receiving devices to legitimate the access to the protected areas. A user password or a biometric feature is transmitted to one of the receiving devices for legitimating the access to the protected areas. The image file with 10 to 100 pixels is stored in the mobile telephone. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for executing a method for legitimating access to protected areas (2) a system for legitimating access to protected areas.
