The method involves connecting an output unit (21,22,24), a central computer (8) and a mobile device by an interface (10,14). A unique identifier of the mobile device is determined after attaching the mobile device to the interface. A setting of an electronic network is determined and set depending upon the determined unique identifier. The setting is determined depending upon the determined unique identification when the mobile device is connected to the interface for last time. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device for operating an electronic network in a motor vehicle; and (2) a computer program with programming instructions.
