A simple, safe electronic settlement system. A user terminal (20) e.g., a pager, communicates with a settlement server (30) by radio at a shop. A cash register terminal (10) of the shop communicates with the settlement server (30) through a leased line. The pager receives a transaction identification number preset by the settlement server, displays it in the form of a bar code, and allows the cash register terminal (10) to read it. The cash register terminal transmits the transaction identification number to the settlement server. When the transaction identification number received by the settlement server agrees with the preset transaction identification number, the settlement server conducts settlement. The person in charge of the cash register terminal authenticates the user through the settlement server. The user can complete the settlement without letting the shop know user's personal information such as the credit card number and password, thus improving the security. |
