The gas-powered vehicle has a gas combustion engine (33), which is connected with a gas tank (35) carried along on the vehicle by a supply line (31). A control device (10) has an on-off switch (20) for regular turning on or off the operation of the internal combustion engine. The control device is arranged to pass over the stop valve (38) in the closed condition and to activate one of the vehicle mounted warning device (42) to signal an irregular operating condition, when an irregular engine standstill occurs in case the on-off switch is located in on position. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the engine operation of a gas combustion engine of a vehicle.
