<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved simpler preparation process of a water absorptive molded product without using a thickening agent. <P>SOLUTION: This preparation process is carried out by irradiating a water solution comprising a photopolymerization initiator and a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated polymer with a light up to give a desired viscosity and discontinue the irradiation.
