PURPOSE: A composition containing Lycoris chejuensis extract or compound isolated from the same for preventing or/and treating neurodegenerative diseases is provided to suppress beta-secretase product(sAPPbeta) generation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases contains Lycoris chejuensis extract as an active ingredient. The Lycoris chejuensis extract is obtained by isolating with water or C1-C4 low alcohol. The composition for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases contains dihydrolycoricidine of chemical formula 1 and 2-methoxypancracine of chemical formula 2, lycoricidine of chemical formula 3, or lycoricidinol of chemical formula 4 as an active ingredient. A health food for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases contains the composition.
