RARE GAS FLUORESCENT LAMP OF EXTERNAL ELECTRODE TYPE AND RARE GAS FLUORESCENT LAMP UNIT FOR BACKLIGHT

PURPOSE: A rear gas fluorescent lamp for external electrodes and a rear gas fluorescent lamp unit for a back light are provided to obtain emitted light to the entire direction of a lamp axial direction by reducing the size of a non-emitted region. CONSTITUTION: A glass bulb(11) is a straight pipe shape. Fluorescent substances(12) are applied on the internal side of the glass bulb. A pair of external electrodes(15A, 15B) opposing to each other are installed to the external side of the glass bulb. A starting electrode(18) is installed in the internal side of the glass bulb. A rear gas is sealed inside the glass bulb. The fluorescent substances cover at least part of the starting electrode.
