PURPOSE: A data storage unit and an operating method thereof are provided to optimize the current applied to a magnetic track by easily adjusting the current according to need. CONSTITUTION: A data storage unit comprises a magnetic track(100), a current application unit(200), and a current optimizing unit(300). The magnetic track has a plurality of magnetic domains and magnetic domain walls located between the magnetic domains. The current application unit applies pulse current to the magnetic track. The current optimizing unit optimizes pulse current applied by the current application unit to the magnetic track. The magnetic track comprises a dummy data region in which dummy data are stored for optimization of the pulse current. The dummy data region includes a first unit(150) having a data playback function. The current optimizing unit is connected to the first unit and the current application unit.
