An image reading device and image forming device which secure the reproducibility of image density in cases when forming a monochrome image from a color document read by a color contact type image sensor, and which prevent image deterioration in cases when an image is read at a low resolution. A CIS unit (40) is provided with three line image sensors (41, 42, 43) of colors R, B, and G, with photoelectric converters of different colors arranged in the sub scanning direction (X1) of the document being read, and photoelectric converters of the same colors arranged in the main scanning direction (the direction vertical to the page surface). That is, the R line image sensor (41), the B line image sensor (42), and the G line image sensor (43) are arranged in this order along the sub scanning direction (X1) with one line gap between each line image sensor (41 to 43).
