METHOD FOR ASSESSING LINEAR DEVELOPMENT OF CATTLE

A method for assessing the linear development of cattle including taking measurements, calculating the body building indices and subsequent analysis of the data obtained. In animals the heart girth behind the shoulders and height of withers are measured and cattle body volume index (CBVI) is calculated for each individual under assessment according to the formula given and levels of the indices obtained are analyzed. The animals in which CBVI is within the range of 142.4-143.7% belong to the milk-type conformation, animals with CBVI within the range of 145.7-145.8% and higher belong to the combined conformation type.
