PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for simply classifying an input image and a text recognition method and an apparatus using the same by analyzing the characteristic of an image histogram are provided to reduce process time and the complexity of the calculation. CONSTITUTION: A histogram analyzing unit(110) converts an input image into a histogram image of a gray level. The histogram analyzing unit analyzes the characteristic of the histogram image. An image classifying unit(120) classifies the input image based on the analyzed result. The characteristic of the histogram image includes the frequency of the histogram image, the number of peaks, and peak distance.
