The invention relates to a method for separating carbon dioxide from gas mixtures by absorption by means of aqueous, alkaline solutions, characterized in that the absorption is carried out in a countercurrent apparatus wherein the gas mixture to be processed and the aqueous, alkaline solution are guided in the countercurrent and wherein a discontinuous fluid phase forms in the interior of the countercurrent apparatus and the separation is carried out in the interior of the countercurrent apparatus in the presence of active carbon, wherein the active carbon is in the interior of the countercurrent apparatus in an amount of 1 g to 2 kg active carbon per m3 of volume of the countercurrent apparatus.
