Provided is a method for producing a halogen-substituted benzene dimethanol, including a first step for reacting a compound represented by formula (1) and a compound represented by formula (2) to obtain a dicarboxamide compound represented by formula (3), and a second step for reducing the dicarboxamide compound using a boron hydride compound to obtain the halogen-substituted benzene dimethanol represented by formula (4).
