PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking method to improve a yield and productivity without impairing textures in a papermaking process of paper and paperboard. SOLUTION: The papermaking method is such that: in a papermaking raw material before papermaking, a part of a main papermaking raw material flow having passed through the last screen 2 is made into a bypass flow 5; the bypass flow 5 is further divided into two or three branches 6 and 7; the branches 6 and 7 are mixed 8 with a papermaking chemical 4 by one or more mixing means, returned to the main papermaking raw material flow so that the papermaking chemical is mixed with the papermaking raw material. As for the papermaking chemical, a water-soluble polymer composed of a dispersion, which is obtained by subjecting a vinyl-based monomer or a vinyl-based monomer mixture to dispersion polymerization in an aqueous solution of a salt in the presence of a polymer dispersant soluble in the aqueous solution of the salt and having particle diameters of≤100μm, is suitable for the papermaking method.
