PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information input device that detects a proximity object such as a finger with high accuracy.

SOLUTION: A sensitivity monitor signal of a backlight beam LB obtained by a sensitivity monitor sensor 35 is used to apply adaptive sensitivity correction to a reception signal so that the reception signals obtained from the same external proximity object have a constant intensity. Even when a change in the reception sensitivity occurs due to the deterioration with time or individual variations occur in the reception sensitivity, the reception signals of the constant intensity can be obtained from the same external proximity object. It is preferable to also perform predetermined in-place correction or temperature correction.
