PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block for masonry, which can relatively easily achieve the construction of a block fence excellent in beauty without making a joint conspicuous, and to provide a construction method using the same. SOLUTION: In the masonry blocks 13 and 14, multistep grooves 31, 32, 31' and 32' are formed in the longitudinal direction of the blocks in the state of leaving both end surfaces of the block top-surface areas 33 and 33' on the top surfaces of the blocks. Also, mortar receiving grooves 34 and 34' are formed respectively in the longitudinal direction of the blocks on both the end surfaces of the remaining block top-surface areas 33 and 33'.
