<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack shaft supporting structure that guides a rack bush in such a way as to make it coaxial with a rack shaft, without depending on the rack bush itself even when a rack housing and the rack shaft are not coaxial with each other, and to provide a rack pinion type steering device using the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rack shaft supporting structure includes a rack shaft 5 that engages with a pinion shaft, a rack housing 10 that houses the rack shaft 5, and a rack bush 11 that supports the rack shaft 5 movably in the shaft direction while the rack bush is slidably in contact with the rack shaft 5. In the rack shaft supporting structure, a support member 12 having a plurality of plate spring pieces 12b that are elastic in radial directions and arranged in the circumference direction, and surrounding and supporting the rack bush 11 is fixed to the rack housing 10.
