<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceiling fan capable of detecting deformation and breakage of a blade and of safely stopping. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The ceiling fan includes an external rotation type motor 102 pivotally supported by a shaft 101, the blade 104 fixed on a rotor of the motor 102, a light emitting part 1 fixed on the shaft 101 and emitting light toward a tip of the blade 102, a reflection part 2 of the tip section of the blade 104, a light receiving part 3 disposed near the light emitting part 1, and a control means 6. The control means 6 detects deformation and breakage of the blade and safely stops the fan by controlling the motor 102 based on signal from the light receiving part 3.
