PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polypeptide having flavonoid 3',5'-hydroxylase (F3'5'H) activity, a gene encoding the peptide, and a method for manipulating color etc., in flowers.

SOLUTION: There are provided a gene sequence encoding the polypeptide having the flavonoid 3',5'-hydroxylase (F3'5'H) activity; use of the gene sequence and/or the corresponding polypeptide thereof for inter alia manipulating the color in the flowers or parts thereof or in other plant tissues; the gene sequence expressed in rose or gerbera or botanically related plants; antisense and sense molecules or RNAi-inducing molecules corresponding to all or part of the subject gene sequence or a transcript thereof; and a promoter which operates efficiently in plants such as the rose, gerbera or botanically related plants.
