The system (10) has a conveying apparatus (22) to convey a plate-type workpiece to a cutting saw (12) i.e. beam saw, arranged on a table (20). Another table (50) is used as an intermediate storage for the workpiece, where the latter table is movable in a vertical direction. The latter table is integrated to the former table in a position and is lowered from the former table in another position. A support unit (52) is movable in a horizontal direction, such that the support unit is integrated to the former table in lieu of the latter table, when the latter table is not in the former position.
